Park Herd 1 Park Herd 2

The 1,000-head Fallow Deer (Dama Dama) herd at Kinmel is run under the stewardship of Dickon Fetherstonhaugh and his team of stalkers, led by Head Stalker John Price. Roe Deer (Capreolus Capreolus) have only recently started to build up a population, and we anticipate being able to offer Roe stalking for sale as of 2008.

The herd was begun in the seventeenth century when Sir Owen Wynne of Gwydir gave a herd of deer to Sir John Carter, then owner of Kinmel, “for his new park”. The herd remained a park (enclosed) herd through until the First World War, when the Army, who used the park as a training ground during both wars, pulled down part of the deer fence. Since then, the deer have been wild and free to roam.

Whilst the famous white bucks form an integral part of the herd, these are not for sale, instead reserved for the family and their guests. (More information on Fallow and their colouring)

We can offer at present accompanied stalking for does, prickets and bucks (see price guide below). Accommodation will be arranged if needed by the Estate.  Please contact Dickon Fetherstonhaugh at the address below for more information and booking.

“Stalking at Kinmel was the best lowland stalking experience that I can imagine- from welcome to receipt of my mounted head it was a pleasure.  I can’t wait to return.” - Duncan Lang, Kent
